When Alex Lubar was recruited to join McCann Erickson as North American CMO in June 2012, observers wondered what he was taking on. Lubar had been part of the winning new business team at Grey, New York, where he was svp of new business at the same time McCann was on a three-year dry spell, losing out to agencies like Grey in reviews like Radio Shack.
Since then, a lot has changed for McCann and Lubar, who has just been promoted to global CMO of McCann Worldgroup, a new position. His responsibilities now extend globally across unit that, aside from McCann, include MRM (for digital marketing); Momentum (events and promotions); McCann Healthcare; UM (media); Weber Shandwick (public relations); FutureBrand (design); and Craft (global production).
As a part of the change, Lotta Malm-Hallqvist, who was named McCann Erickson global chief growth officer in February 2011, will exit the company. Malm-Hallqvist previously ran global new business at Mother where she was a colleague of Linus Karlsson, now creative chairman of McCann’s dedicated General Motors unit, Commonwealth. Karlsson was named chairman, chief creative officer of McCann’s New York and London offices in November 2010 and was instrumental in Hallqvist's hiring.
McCann also said Chioma Aduba is joining McCann N.Y. as new business group director, from Grey New York, where she was marketing account director for business development since November 2011.
At McCann, Lubar has been associated with wins like the United States Postal Service, Lockheed Martin, Zurich Insurance, SABIC, Jose Cuervo, the American Frozen Food Institute and Ignite Restaurant Group. Before McCann and Grey, Lubar was an account director at Bartle Bogle Hegarty, The Ad Store and Rapp Collins Worldwide.
Prior to Grey, Aduba held business development positions at Havas PR and JWT and was a brand marketing manager at Sports Illustrated.
