Jeff Kenyon has been promoted to head of planning at BBDO N.Y., assuming responsibilities handled by Paul Matheson, the former director of behavioral planning, who left last June.
In his new role, Kenyon, who has been evp, group planning director and a member of BBDO’s New York board of directors, will lead the agency’s 50-person New York planning group as well as have involvement in North American and worldwide assignments. He will continue to be close to clients, including AT&T, GE, ExxonMobil, Starbucks and HP, and the agency noted Kenyon’s contribution to new-business wins like HP’s global consolidation, ExxonMobil and AT&T’s Enterprise business.

BBDO said Matheson, formerly the regional planning director at Ogilvy & Mather Asia, wanted to return to Asia for personal reasons. In the wake of his departure, John Osborn, president and CEO of BBDO New York, said the agency did not want to rush to find a replacement.
“Jeff earned this promotion. Creativity does not exist in a vacuum and Jeff distills a lot of complex data into insights,” Osborn said. “He’s a radiator, the kind of person people want to be around. He has a lot of respect from the creative department and he works in an incredibly collaborative way with them.”
David Lubars, chairman, chief creative officer, BBDO North America, added: “Jeff is a brilliant reductionist; he breaks down complexity. He makes the work better.”
Kenyon joined BBDO in 2010 after working at Ogilvy & Mather, Goodby Silverstein & Partners, Cliff Freeman & Partners and Fallon in Minneapolis and New York.
