Twitter is looking to increase its clout in Washington, forming a political action committee called Twitter#PAC.

Until now, Twitter's presence in Washington has been low-key—unlike Google, Facebook and other Silicon Valley giants that upped their game and spending in recent years.

The company will lobby on patent reform, privacy, Internet freedom and net neutrality issues, according to a lobby disclosure form filed by William Carty, who will become the company's first lobbyist, based in the company's D.C. office.

Carty, a Republican, was most recently a policy director in the Senate's commerce committee.

Twitter also hired Nu Wexler to serve as the company's policy spokesperson. Wexler was recently a staffer with Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.).
